There are lots of ways to get involved in BikeSummer 2003, no matter where you are and how much or how little time you have.

Spread the Word!

  • E-mail your contacts--friends, bike organizations/ clubs/ listservs/ businesses, schools, social justice and environmental organizations--about BikeSummer 2003 in NYC. More information.
  • Link your Web site to www.bikesummer.org, and tell all your favorite Web sites to do the same. Link coding and graphics.
  • Ask the groups you belong to to put an announcement in their newsletter. Sample text.
  • Run a BikeSummer ad in your newsletter or publication, or help us find publications to run our ad for free. Contact Jim.
  • Run BikeSummer's PSA on your TV channel or before the movies you show, or help us find channels and theaters that will run a BikeSummer PSA. 30- and 60-second spots are available. Contact BikeTV.
  • Print and copy flyers to distribute on rides and at events. Contact Carter if you'd like postcards, stickers, or other promotional materials.
  • Display BikeSummer information in your store or office or at your events and meetings. Contact Carter if you'd like postcards, stickers, or small posters.
  • Share your mailing list with BikeSummer for promotional and fund-raising purposes. Contact Hannah.

Support BikeSummer With Money, Materials, and/or Your Skills

  • Make a financial contribution. All donations are tax deductible and will be acknowledged on our Supporters page.

    Your donation will be routed through BikeSummer's fiscal sponsor, TIME'S UP!, a 501c3 New York-based non-profit environmental group focused on promoting a more sustainable, healthier, less toxic city.
    If you'd prefer to pay by check, make your check payable to Time's Up-BikeSummer and mail to BikeSummer 2003, P.O. Box 249, New York, NY 10002-0249. More information.
  • Donate office supplies, stamps, delivery service, paper, envelopes, and/or photocopying.
  • Donate a scanner or use of a scanner capable of producing hi-res files from 35mm slides, 35mm negatives, and medium format transparencies and film.
  • Donate goods or services for our fund-raising raffle. In-kind donations will be acknowledged on our Supporters and Raffle pages. Contact the Raffle Coordinator for more information.
  • Donate your skills. We could use help in many areas: graphics, mechanics, music, legal, advertising, documentation, valet bike parking, promotions, writing, PR, event space . . . you name it! Please click to our contact list and reach out to the appropriate person. If you can't figure out who the right contact is, e-mail Hannah and she'll try to help.
  • Offer discounted bike rentals or other goods or services to BikeSummer participants. If you are willing to offer reduced rates for BikeSummer participants, please contact Carter. All offers will be listed on our Rentals page.
  • Donate a percentage of your sales during BikeSummer. Contact Naomi.
  • Create a special BikeSummer product, and give BikeSummer part of the proceeds. Contact Naomi.
  • Donate to the BikeSummer opening and closing parties (beverages, snacks, homemade cookies, etc.). Donors will be acknowledged on our Supporters page. Contact Michael.

Provide Special New York Hospitality

  • Invite your friends to visit and bring them to BikeSummer events.
  • Host out-of-towners visiting for BikeSummer. Contact Joyce and Christopher for more information.

Help With Events

The four weeks from June 27 to July 26, 2003, in New York City will be loaded with great bike happenings open to everyone and mostly free of charge. Calendar.

  • Plan your own event. More details.
  • Volunteer to help at a BikeSummer event. Contact the organizer of the event you'd like to help with. Calendar.
  • Bring people, including kids, to BikeSummer events. Calendar.

Visit NYC During BikeSummer!

Special section for out-of-towners.

  • Visit us during BikeSummer! Plan a group trip and bring a bunch of your biking buddies to New York. Check out our NYC section for travel advice. While you're here, why not make a presentation about biking/advocacy in your area?
  • Distribute flyers at your local Critical Mass. Contact Carter if you'd like postcards, stickers, or other promotional materials.

Help Organize BikeSummer

Yup, you can help us put this all together!

  • Join the organizer e-mail list to discuss planning BikeSummer 2003 find out about upcoming meetings. Write to BikeSummer-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
  • Join a committee! Be a part of a committee working on a specific aspect of BikeSummer 2003 (including funding, publicity, events and outreach, graphics, space, and Web). To get in touch with a particular committee, see the contact list.
