In order to make this festival as great as possible, we need as many events as we can get. Many of them are very simple, ranging from city rides to story-telling nights to parties. If you want to take part in an event but don't have any bright ideas, we are already planning some that need extra hands. Check out the Get Involved setion for more information. If you do want to start your own event, then you can submit your idea here. Please read through the following guidelines before proceeding to the submission form.
The form requires you to provide a suggested date, location, and description of your event. Don't be intimidated. You do not necessarily need to give us a final date, or organize a venue, in order to put on an event. All that you need is an idea. Unless you want to do a Bike Laser Show, you will not need to do a huge amount of pre-planning. Here are some suggestions for filling out the form:
Suggested Date: Check out our calendar to see what days already have events planned. If you don't have a particular date in mind, or you don't care, then just say so. We can choose one for you. If you do have a date in mind, but there is already an event taking place on that day, that's usually not a problem. It's better avoided, but we can have concurrent events.
Location: Many of the Bikesummer goings-on are bike rides, around the city, through parks, the UBC Endownment lands, or otherwise. In this case, the location should simply be a meeting place. If you are from out of town, we can always suggest something for you. Some of the events that we are doing require wide-open, outdoor spaces. There are a whole bunch of public parks and beaches in Vancouver that can be used without being booked ahead of time. Other events need to take place indoors, but there are lots of places around town that we can grab. Let us know if you need help making a location.
Description of event: Just explain what your idea is. You don't need to give the minute details of how everything is going to come together - that can all be worked out later.
