Why is the U.S. government still spending BILLIONS of dollars on weapons research instead of clean energy and transportation solutions?

While weapons technology and genetic engineering are researched at an alarming pace, they have become an end in themselves, removed from serious ethical and public dialogue regarding their implementations. Hiroshima Day provides an opportunity to question how such technologies are used. With the approach of the next millenium there is an historic opportunity to reflect on the social, transportation, and environmental problems that exist on a global level.

Join us on Friday, August 6th as cyclists trump the tritium set with a peaceful protest ride to Livermore Labs. The ride begins at 1:00 PM from the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station. We will unite with other peace activists from Tri-Valley CAREs for a rally at the Labs at 2:30 PM. In San Francisco meet at Justin Herman Plaza at 11:30 AM for the BART ride at noon to Dublin-Pleasanton.

Tri-Valley Communities Against a Radioactive Environment is the internationally recognized grassroots "watchdog" over the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which is a primary US nuclear weapons development lab. Activities at Livermore Lab are deeply intertwined with the US' domestic, foreign and military policies, which, in turn, effect the entire planet. Tri-Valley CAREs publicly accessible office in Livermore contains a vast archive of information on nuclear weapons and nuclear waste issues. For more information about August 6th, Tri-Valley CAREs, Livermore Conversion Project, or nuclear issues, call Tri-Valley CAREs at (925)443-7148 or Livermore Conversion Project at (510)663-8065.
