The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is a membership-based advocacy group working to transform San Francisco's streets and neighborhoods into more livable and safe places by promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation and by improving the conditions for walking and transit. Different Spokes San Francisco is the San Francisco-Bay Area's Lesbian and Gay bicycling club, open to all members of the Gay-Lesbian community and its friends,and promotes relationships through the shared interest of bicycling. The organization has been active since 1982 and currently has over 300 active members, 43% of which are women.

The Marin County Bicycle Coalition was founded in April 1998 to improve bicycling conditions by uniting the interests of cyclists in Marin County.
