Camping
Unfortunately there is very little camping in San Francisco. There are three weekend organized camping trips on weekends though. Check out the BikeSummer calendar for details. If you have additional questions on the camping possibilities listed below, contact SkiBu (415) 431-7776.
Haypress camp (in Marin)
It is about 1 1/2 hours away by bike (a very pleasant ride), about 16 miles.
Though it is away from San Francisco, it is a nice place because it is about
1 mile away from the parking lot (but you can ride your bike there), is FREE,
and is available most weekdays. You can call (415) 331-1540 to make a reservation.
Kirby Cove (in
Marin, right across the bridge)
Kirby Cove is a very beautiful place right across Golden Gate Bridge but is
$20/night and has only 4 sites. Each site can hold 8-10 people. Most likely
space is available on weekdays but definitely not on weekends. If the fog comes
in (which is likely in August), the nearby fog horns on Golden Gate Bridge go
off so bring ear plugs. You can call (415) 331-1540 to make a reservation.
Battery Chamberlain
(in San Francisco)
An old military gun bunker that is
right on the beach right by Golden Gate Bridge. $20 gets you the whole place
with indoor beds for 25 people (bring sleeping bags). Great for groups. Call
(415) 561-4304 to make a reservation.
